Ductless Mini-Split Installation in Arlington Heights, IL

If your home lacks the ductwork for a traditional HVAC system, you may benefit from a ductless mini-split. A ductless mini-split is a great choice for cooling your home’s addition, garage, or workshop. For homeowners interested in a zoned air conditioning system, a ductless mini-split offers the capability you need.

A ductless mini-split can heat and cool your home all year long. You also will enjoy energy savings. Unlike At IBBOTSON Heating & Air Conditioning Co., our team can recommend and install the right mini-split for your Arlington Heights home.

The Installation Process

Every ductless mini-split installation begins with a call to our installation pros at IBBOTSON Heating & Air Conditioning Co.. We start the process by evaluating your home. Your home’s age, size, and building materials can affect the size and location of your new ductless mini-split. We’ll listen to your concerns and answer any questions. After this evaluation, we’ll begin the installation process.

Deciding on a Location

Our technician selects a place to install the indoor unit. Depending on the model you choose, we may install the indoor unit on the wall or ceiling. The ideal location is on an inside wall, approximately seven feet above the floor. There should be at least six inches of open wall space around each side of the unit. The area also should be away from direct sunlight, heat, or gas.

Mounting the Indoor Air Handler

The indoor air handler blows cool air into your home. Inside your home, we’ll install anchors on your wall. These anchors hold the unit’s mounting plate. We attach the indoor unit to the mounting plate.

Placing the Outdoor Condenser

In addition to deciding on an indoor location, we need to select a location for the outdoor unit. The best location for the condenser is away from areas with a lot of activity. Dirt, plants, rodents, and weather can lead to problems with your outdoor unit. We’ll select a location that minimizes exposure to these elements.

Your outdoor unit should have at least 1 foot of open space around it. We’ll place the unit at least ten feet away from antennae or wires that can cause electrical interference.

Once the condenser is in the proper location, we’ll connect the wires and secure the cables.

Connecting the Units

After we place the indoor and outdoor units, we will connect the two units. Our technician drills a three-inch hole in the wall to join the indoor and outdoor units. This hole slopes down towards the exterior of the home. We’ll install a flange to hold the refrigerant lines. Piping lines pass through the hole and connect the air handler and condenser. The refrigerant passes through these lines to heat and cool the air.

Attaching the Drainpipe

We’ll attach a drainpipe to the base of the air handler. This drainpipe collects the water as it condenses and drains it outside your home.

Finishing the Job

Your mini-split includes a wall monitor or remote control that allows you to control the temperature. We’ll install the wall monitor and test the system. We’ll walk you through the process of using your new ductless mini-split. Before we leave, we’ll clean up our work area and ensure your home is spotless.
